CoAS Thapa visits Jitgadhi Killa in Butwal

Khasyouli : Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Purnachandra Thapa has made an on-site visit of Jitgadhi Killa (Fort) at Butwal today. 

On the occasion, Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City's Mayor Shivaraj Subedi briefed CoAS Thapa about the nine feet tall statue of Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa in the Fort that is being developed as a tourist spot. 

The Fort, which acquired the name Jeetgadhi after the Nepali troops led by Colonel Ujir Singh Thapa triumphing against the Nepal-Britain war in 1816 AD, is located at the western bank of the Tinau River in Butwal. 

Furthermore, Mayor Dhakal appraised CoAS Thapa about the integrated tourism development plan for this historic place with the mention of the biggest size of Nepali flag (9 feet tall) in the making and to be fluttered from this place. 

He requested with the visiting CoAS for the arrangement of the regular duty by the Nepal Army to protect this place. Request was also placed for support for the construction of a museum in the Fort. 

CoAS Thapa lauded the initiative of the Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City regarding the plan to promote Jitgadhi Killa and pledged collaboration from the Nepal Army for the same. 

He also shared that the Nepal Army has been conducting a special study about the historical forts prior and after the unification of Nepal, areas of strategic importance and Forts. 

Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City Spokesperson Ram Prasad Regmi said that efforts will be made to attract British tourists to Jitgadhi by coordinating efforts with the UK government.
