PM takes updates of reconstruction status of Patan Durbar Square heritages

Lalitpur : Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today visited the historic Patan Durbar Square in Lalitpur and took updates about the reconstruction works going on there. 

The Prime Minister observed the under-reconstruction monuments at the UNESCO world heritage site which was heavily damaged by the 2015 April earthquake, on the occasion of the 21st National Earthquake Safety Day at the call of Lalitpur metropolis mayor Chiribabu Maharjan. 

He expressed his happiness over the ‘good progress’ in the rebuilding efforts, underlining the need of dedication of all to make the post-quake reconstruction campaign successful. 

As he said, the reconstruction of religious and cultural heritages is in the priority of the government, promising that those damaged heritages in the Kathmandu Valley awaiting the rebuild would begin soon. He highlighted the roles of people's representatives, local governments, people and the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) to expedite the reconstruction efforts. 

Mayor Maharjan briefed the Prime Minister about Durbar Square monuments and situation of the reconstruction efforts. Mayor Maharjan is the coordinator of the management subcommittee under the Home Minister-headed 21st National Earthquake Safety Day main organising committee. 

Nepal observes Magh 2 (January 15 or 16) in the Nepali calendar as the National Earthquake Safety Day in commemoration of the 1934's (Magh 2, 1990 BS) devastating earthquake.
